`Jobs in Japan

Most foreigners work as English teachers in Japan. And one of the criteria is being a native speaker.

What do they mean by native speaker, I wonder. Is it a British, a westerner or someone learning English from young? Hence I went here:http://www.englishforums.com/English/HowWouldDefineNativeSpeakerEnglish/xwmc/post.htm

In my opinion, a native speaker is most likely a westerner but being one doesn't really give an edge over someone who speaks fluent english but had learnt english at a later age right?

`Chinese New Year

Translation is half way complete mainly due to NEW YEAR

Yes, it had really taken up much of my free time, new clothes hunt, food hunt,
gatherings, etc.

Chinese New Year, as the name suggests, is the new year of the Chinese. This year is the year of the Rabbit! Which means it's this boy's year!

Basically we do spring cleaning before new year arrives and stock up on our new year supplies, which includes food, clothes, anything! We also take the opportunity to meet up with friends and families and get ourselves updated in their lives. (Facebook can't compare to the physical meeting!)

So yesterday on New year's eve, we went to a relative's house and everyone from my extended family just gather and we went to a Chinese restaurant to eat. The dishes are vegetable hotpot, Glutinous Rice 糯米饭, roasted duck meat, fried fish and for desert, Long gan drink!

I wish I had taken some pictures but I forgotten to bring my camera along and my phone died half way T.T

And the restaurant is beautiful and grand! Reservations were closed real early but as my relatives knew the boss of the restaurant, we manage to snag a reservation!

Then we went to the temple to pray. I love the temple but no photography allowed in temples, gomen!

Next we have to pray to the gods again back at home, to the sky gods (tian shen, as they are called) and after which we set off the firecrackers. The noise was exploding and it felt as if there were a thousand alarm clock surrounding me. (best metaphor I guess?)

Lastly, we released the astonishing fireworks. We bought 2 boxes, one box goes for about USD 300. I missed the second one as I went to bath but I could still is the fireworks in the bathroom, haha! It was a beautiful sight, now I understand what it means to soak in the waters and enjoy the scenery (referring to the onsens or hot springs, this is what travel agencies like to advertise)

Here's a photo from my cell phone! This is some Japanese jelly from Taiwan! It's pricing is USD 2/100g. And my skirt from Japan that cost me around USD 70
